1.4 MILLION RECORDS STOLEN FROM RETAILER
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - In what appears to be the largest breach of consumer information to date, shoe retailer DSW this week said that it estimates that 1.4 million of its customers' credit card records were stolen, as well as transaction information involving 96,000 checks.

PRESIDENT SIGNS BANKRUPTCY BILL
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - President Bush on Wednesday signed into law a bankruptcy reform bill that will make it harder for individuals to clear their debts through bankruptcy.

AMERITRADE LOSES CUSTOMER ACCOUNT INFO
NEW YORK (CNN) - Ameritrade said Tuesday account information may have been lost for up to 200,000 customers when a package containing tapes with back-up information on customer accounts went missing.

LEXISNEXIS WARNS 280,000 OF INFO BREACH
DAYTON, Ohio - LexisNexis said on Monday that it has begun notifying about 280,000 people whose personal information may have been accessed by unauthorized individuals using stolen passwords and IDs.

IRS FLAWS EXPOSE TAXPAYERS TO SNOOPING, STUDY FINDS
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Computer-security flaws at the U.S. tax-collection agency expose millions of taxpayers to potential identity theft or illegal police snooping, according to a congressional report released on Monday.

FTC HOSTS OECD WORKSHOP ON CONSUMER DISPUTE RESOLUTION AND REDRESS
Representatives from 23 countries today assembled in Washington, DC for a two-day conference on consumer dispute resolution and redress. The conference is being hosted by the Federal Trade Commission and was organized by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's (OECD) Committee on Consumer Policy to exchange views on the effectiveness of approaches to dispute resolution and redress, both domestically and for cross-border transactions. FTC Chairman Deborah Platt Majoras and European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection Markos Kyprianou delivered keynote speeches to open the event.

PUBLICATION OF FEDERAL REGISTER NOTICE ON NATIONAL DO NOT CALL REGISTRY
The Commission has approved the publication of a notice of proposed rulemaking in the Federal Register that would amend the Telemarketing Sales Rule to revise the fees charged for industry access to the National Do Not Call Registry.
