NEW BANKRUPTCY LAW - SOME PROVISIONS EFFECTIVE NOW, MOST OCTOBER 17TH

Most provisions of the New Bankruptcy Law go into effect on Oct 17, 2005, but some provisions went into effect when it was signed by President Bush on April 20, 2005.

Learn more about key components, the affects for Secured and Unsecured Creditors, and how it will impact procedures and results at the Bankruptcy Educational Forums for Creditors, presented by Resource Management Services, Inc. The content of these forums will include a general overview of the new law by Sam Gerdano, Executive Director of the American Bankruptcy Institute (June 2nd only). Nationally recognized experts Henry Hildebrand, Chapter 13 Trustee, and Richardo Kilpatrick, creditor attorney and former President of ABI, will jointly discuss this revolutionary new law in detail, from a consumer creditor's point of view. H&R BLOCK LAWSUIT SETTLEMENT BLOCKED
NEW YORK (Reuters) - H&R Block Inc. (HRB.N: Quote, Profile, Research), the largest U.S. tax preparer, on Friday said a federal judge had blocked a proposed $360 million settlement of a lawsuit over loans given in anticipation of tax refunds.

FTC BANS BOGUS OPERATOR FROM CREDIT REPAIR BUSINESS
An operator who charged consumers for services he did not deliver and misrepresented customers' credit worthiness to the credit reporting agencies has been banned for life from operating a credit repair business. Settlement of the charges also bars further violation of the Federal Trade Commission Act and the Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA), and requires the defendant to pay $100,000 in civil penalties.

US GOV'T BACKS BANK OF AMERICA APPEAL ON FEES
NEW YORK, May 24 (Reuters) - The U.S. government urged a California appeals court to block a ruling requiring Bank of America Corp. (BAC.N: Quote, Profile, Research) to pay $284.4 million to customers who claimed the bank illegally raided their Social Security benefits to collect fees.

FTC, PARTNERS LAUNCH CAMPAIGN AGAINST SPAM "ZOMBIES"
The Federal Trade Commission and 35 government partners from more than 20 countries have targeted the technology trick used by illegal spammers to tap into consumers' home computers and use them to send millions of pieces of illegal spam. Spammers use hidden software that allows them to hijack consumers' home computers and route spam through them.

BANK SECURITY BREACH MAY BE BIGGEST YET
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Bank of America Corp. and Wachovia Corp. are among the big banks notifying more than 670,000 customers that account information was stolen in what may the biggest security breach to hit the banking industry.
Account information on the customers was illegally sold by bank employees to a man identified as Orazio Lembo, whom police said was doing business by illegally posing as a collection agency.
