Collection & Recovery Solutions will be held September 7-9 2005 at The Wynn Las Vegas Resort. A "Tribute to Agencies" and roast of industry veterans, will be part of the festivities at the Black Tie Gala and benefit for Children's Hospital of Orange County on September 9th.

Prior Collection & Recovery Solutions conferences had restricted attendance. This year, celebrating 25 years in the industry, we expand the creditor attendance and exhibiting sponsorship opportunities.

Spaces for the Golf Classic are still available. Golf will be held on Saturday, September 10th with a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m. Registered Creditor attendees will also receive a special invitation to the VIP "Meet the Speakers" reception on Saturday, September 10th at 5:30 p.m. to 6:45p.m.

Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and the room block at the Wynn will end on August 5, so please register as soon as possible. HSBC TO BUY METRIS COS. FOR $1.6 BILLION
Prospect Heights-based HSBC Finance agreed to buy Metris Cos. for $1.6 billion in cash, substantially expanding the base of customers for credit cards and consumer loans in the profitable U.S. market.

BANK OF ENGLAND MAKES FIRST RATE CUT IN 2YRS
The Bank of England on Thursday cut its main interest rate by 25 basis points to 4.5% in response to the sharp slowdown in the UK economy, which grew at its lowest annual growth rate for 12 years in the second quarter.

CANADIAN SCAMMERS PERMANENTLY BANNED FROM TELEMARKETING
Canadian telemarketers who duped consumers into revealing their bank account information and debited hundreds of dollars from their accounts have been permanently banned from engaging in telemarketing in the future under a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission. The settlement provides that accounts with companies that processed the debits will be turned over to the FTC for consumer redress. It also bars the operators from using or selling the personal or financial information they have about U.S. consumers.

HSBC REPORTS 5% PROFITS RISE
HSBC today singled out the UK as its worst market for bad debt as it reported first half profits of $10.6bn, a 5% rise compared with a year ago.
